Client FAQs
Information for businesses engaging the services of Paragon Credit Management.
What types of debts do you recover?
We specialise in commercial (B2B) debt recovery. This includes overdue invoices, unpaid contracts, service fees, trade credit, and other business‑to‑business debts. We do not collect consumer‑regulated debts.
When should I engage a debt collection agency?
You should consider instructing us when:
- an invoice is overdue beyond agreed terms
- communication with the debtor has broken down
- promises to pay have not been kept
- you suspect the debtor is avoiding payment
- you want to avoid legal action but need results
Most businesses engage us between 30–60 days overdue, but earlier intervention often leads to faster recovery.
What are the risks of waiting on late payments?
Delaying action can lead to:
- reduced likelihood of recovery
- cash‑flow strain
- debtor insolvency
- increased administrative costs
- loss of legal entitlement to interest/compensation if left too long
- the debtor prioritising other creditors
Early action protects your position and increases the chance of full recovery.
How does the debt recovery process work?
Our process typically includes:
- Reviewing your instruction and documentation
- Contacting the debtor professionally and firmly
- Negotiating payment or settlement
- Applying statutory interest and compensation (where applicable)
- Recommending legal escalation if required
We aim to resolve matters amicably before considering legal action.
Do you operate on a no‑win, no‑fee basis?
Yes. Our standard commercial debt recovery service is no collection, no commission. If we do not recover your money, you do not pay commission.
What information do you need to start recovery?
Typically:
- debtor name and address
- invoice(s) and statement of account
- contract or purchase order (if available)
- any correspondence relating to the debt
- your authority to act
You can submit everything through our Submit a Debt form.
How quickly will you contact the debtor?
We usually make first contact the same day your instruction is received, or the next working day at the latest.
Will using a debt collection agency damage my business relationship?
Our approach is professional, respectful, and commercially focused. Many debts are recovered without harming ongoing relationships. We do not use aggressive or hostile tactics, our goal is resolution, not conflict.
Can you recover interest and late payment charges?
Yes. Under the Late Payment of Commercial Debts (Interest) Act 1998, you may be entitled to:
- statutory interest
- fixed‑sum compensation
- reasonable recovery costs
We will advise you on what can be applied.
What happens if the debtor disputes the debt?
We will:
- pause recovery
- gather information from both parties
- review documentation
- liaise with you to understand the dispute
- attempt to resolve the matter amicably
If the dispute cannot be resolved, we may recommend legal review.
Do you offer tracing services?
Yes. If a debtor has moved or is avoiding contact, we can conduct a commercial trace to locate updated details.
Can you take legal action on my behalf?
We are not a law firm, but we work closely with specialist solicitors who can:
- issue a Letter Before Action
- file a County Court Claim
- obtain a County Court Judgment (CCJ)
- instruct High Court Enforcement Officers
We will only recommend legal action when appropriate and cost‑effective.
How long does the recovery process take?
It varies depending on:
- debtor cooperation
- dispute status
- payment plan agreements
- legal involvement
Many debts are resolved within 7–21 days, but complex cases may take longer.
How do I track progress on my case?
You can contact us at any time for updates. We provide clear communication throughout the process and notify you of any significant developments.
Do you handle international debts?
We primarily focus on UK‑based commercial debts, but we can review international cases on request and advise on feasibility.
How do I instruct Paragon Credit Management?
You can submit a case through our Submit a Debt page. Alternatively, you can contact us directly if you have multiple accounts or require ongoing support.
